Zimbabwe’s Chevrons lost the Namibia T20 international tri-series final to South Africa by 48 runs in Windhoek on Sunday, undone by a batting collapse in a chase of 206.

South Africa won the toss, chose to bat and posted 205 for five from their 20 overs. Jordan Hermann top-scored with a personal-best 53 from 29 balls.

Zimbabwe were bowled out for 157 inside 18 overs. Brad Evans offered the most resistance with 57 from 31 balls, but wickets fell steadily around him and the required rate moved beyond reach. Zimbabwe lost their last wicket with two overs still unbowled.

The margin tells the story plainly enough: South Africa scored 48 more runs and had five wickets in hand at the close of their innings, while Zimbabwe could not bat out their allocation. CricTracker described the result as the first trophy of the Proteas’ season.

Namibia hosted the tournament and made up the third team. Reaching the final is a creditable return for a Zimbabwe side that has spent much of the year rebuilding, but the final itself followed a pattern the coaching staff will recognise — a competitive total conceded, then a top order that could not build partnerships against a disciplined attack.

Evans’ innings was the exception. Coming in with the chase already under pressure, he scored at better than a run a ball and briefly kept Zimbabwe in touch, before the innings folded around him.

Scottland FC began their first CAF Champions League campaign with a 1-0 win over Eswatini champions Nsingizini Hotspurs at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday, the ground’s first international club fixture since CAF cleared it to host continental matches again.

Cameroonian forward Neville Mbanwei Tengeg came off the bench to score the only goal in the 68th minute, NewZimbabwe.com and Soccer24 reported. The visitors played almost the entire match with ten men after Kingston Kwakyi was shown a straight red card in the third minute for a dangerous challenge on Moses Shidolo, but the Mabvuku-based champions struggled to turn their numerical advantage into clear chances, particularly before the break.

Captain Knowledge Musona was not in the matchday squad. Soccer24 reported before kick-off that the Warriors forward had been left out amid tension with coach Norman Mapeza after a substitution incident in Wednesday’s goalless league draw with FC Platinum. Mapeza told reporters after Sunday’s match that Musona had picked up a hamstring injury in that game and that a scan showed he would be out for about two weeks, NewZimbabwe.com reported.

Scottland, who won the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title in their first top-flight season, had initially planned to stage the tie in Francistown, Botswana, before CAF approved the National Sports Stadium as a Category 3 venue last month, Soccer24 reported. The return leg is due in Eswatini next weekend, and NewZimbabwe.com reported that the squad would travel to South Africa on Monday to set up camp ahead of the second leg.

Zimbabwe’s Makanakaishe Charamba finished third in the men’s 200m at the Wanda Diamond League final in Brussels on Saturday night, clocking 19.99 seconds in a race that left Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo off the podium.

American Kenny Bednarek won in 19.62, equalling his own world-leading time for the year, with South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile second in 19.89, according to NewZimbabwe.com and South Africa’s TimesLIVE. Tebogo, of Botswana, was fourth in 20.01. Tebogo had come into the final with a season’s best of 19.84, well short of his personal best of 19.46, World Athletics noted in its preview.

It was Charamba’s second Diamond League podium in a fortnight. At the Athletissima meeting in Lausanne on 21 August he was also third, in 20.14, behind Tebogo and Dambile, according to results published by Olympics.com and LetsRun.

The Auburn University sprinter reached the Olympic 200m final in Paris in 2024, finishing eighth, and carried Zimbabwe’s flag at the opening ceremony, according to Auburn’s athletics website and the NCAA.

Saturday’s meeting at the King Baudouin Stadium brought the Diamond League season to a close. In its preview, World Athletics said Bednarek led the 2026 rankings with 19.62 and named Dambile and Charamba among the main threats to Tebogo, who had already secured his place at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships as Olympic champion. That event, with US$10 million in prize money, takes place in Budapest next weekend, according to World Athletics and TimesLIVE.
